La Plage As Catedrais (Cathedral Beach)
Around 7km from Ribadeo along the N634 is one of the finest and most visited beaches in the area. La Plage As Catedrais (Cathedral Beach) is a great tourist attraction. Coaches arrive daily for short visits and people come to enjoy the beach for the day.

The Cathedral Beach is so named due to the amazing rock structures that resemble Gothic Cathedrals. They rise to around 30 metres in height and form huge arches, deep caves and passages. It's best viewed when the tide is out and the full extent of the rocks are shown. This also reveals a large sandy beach with little rock pools to keep the children amused for hours.

As you arrive there is a large car park on your right. Should this be full (often is by 10am), there is another car park 100 metres on the left. The first car park is popular with motorhomes and you can stay here overnight, free of charge with no problems.
The beaches are somewhat lower than the car park and are accessed by steps down the steep cliffs. There's a wonderful coastal path with superb panoramic views.

If you sit on the beach and the tide starts to come in, watch for others starting to move off the beach or you may become stranded between the rocks and have to swim back ! |
