The cost of living in Spain - grocery prices for Spain, cost of services in Spain and more

The cost of living in Spain is pretty much in line with the UK although, depending on where you shop, certain goods can be found cheaper. Over the last few years, prices have risen sharply in Spain. See the 2011 price rise predictions here.

You will find in Spain, the tourist areas command the highest prices for most things. However, if you shop where the Spanish shop you are likely to get the cheapest buys. Small Spanish villages have the best prices for fresh produce, especially if it's grown locally. Local markets are great places to shop.

The major supermarket chains in large towns and cities are no different to those in the UK and are all competing with each other on price. It pays you to shop around. Euroski for example is more expensive than Lidl.

With major capital purchases such as furniture, it pays to visit some of the larger hypermarket type showrooms where there is always a sale going on.

If you are looking to purchase a car in Spain then stick to the main dealerships. See more about buying a car here.

There is no doubt that Spain is feeling the effects of the financial crisis and there are protests against price rises and new taxes. Property sales in Spain are picking up slowly and the value of homes are rising very slowly. Predictions are for Spain to come out of the crisis far quicker than the UK and other EU countries.
