Felanitx | |||
| Felanitx has the reputation of being one of the best-kept towns in Mallorca. The town is located close to Porto Colom on the coast, right in the heart of one of the major wine producing areas. It is also the centre of the blue tile manufacturing industry and the major growing area for Mallorca's green capers. You can buy all these things at the Sunday morning market that is held on the steps leading to the church. | |||||
![]() | The church of San Miguel is very important to the town. At the front is a memorial to the 414 people that died in the town when a wall collapsed in 1844. Beneath the rose window you can see the Archangel Michael standing on the Devil's head.
Felanitx is a quaint place to make a visit and you will find a handful of traditional restaurants in which to enjoy true Mallorcan cuisine. The town was named by Queen Maria Cristina in 1886. On top of the hill you will find the fortress and castle that played an important role in the Arab resistance. In this area you will also find the Sanctuary of San Salvador with its impressive monument, visible for miles. | ![]()
