Just about 1km
from
Puerto de la
Duquesa,
along the main
N340 highway,
lies a small
village
community that
has just
latched on to
the holiday
business.
Sabinillas is
predominantly
a market town
with a street
market every
Friday and a
massive car
boot sale and
market every
Sunday. |
 |
| |
|
There are many
bars and
restaurants
here but very
few hotels.
The town has
retained much
of its
original charm
yet apartment
blocks are
springing up
on every
corner. There
is a large
community of
English
residents here
who fit quite
comfortably
into the
community and
are accepted
without
problems. |
| |
|
|
The village of
Sabinillas
tends to be
described as
an off-shoot
of Estepona
yet it is
rightfully a
community all
of its own. It
has a
wonderful
sandy beach
that stretches
the whole
length of the
village. The
council are
currently
constructing a
new Paseo
along its
length.
Fishing boats
still operate
from here with
a degree of
success. |
 |
|
The town is
quiet enough
yet not far
away are the
big resorts of
Marbella,
Estepona
and
Puerto Banus.
Set back from
the busy main
road are
several
wonderful new
developments
of apartments,
town houses
and villas. |
| |
|
|
The village
has everything
you would
expect from a
progressive
Costa del Sol
location, with
ample banks,
shops, cafes
and other
services. Most
of the village
life revolves
around the
town square
where you will
find the Post
Office,
Farmacia, Taxi
rank and the
village
church. With
exception to
the busy N340
highway, the
village is
quiet and has
a sleepy
atmosphere. It
hardly comes
alive at night
and nothing
moves quickly.
The village is
served by
several
schools, one
of which offer
Spanish
lessons for
the English,
organised by
the tourist
board at very
low cost. It
is imagined
that in a few
years time the
village will
be an integral
part of the
Costa holiday
scene. |

|
|
Sabinillas is
currently
undergoing
major changes.
The N340 that
has always cut
the town in
two has now
been diverted
under the town
by means of a
short tunnel.
What was once
the market
place now has
a block of
flats on it.
There are new
apartments
springing up
all over. The
Paseo Maritimo
however is
still many
years behind
the rest of
the coast. |
