Guide to Guaro

Guaro is a small, Moorish village within Andalucia. Nearby you will find Ronda and Coin.

Pictured right is the town hall that is located within a beautiful square with fountains and seating. There are several quaint bars in the area to enjoy a drink and a tapas.

The village consists of narrow, winding streets that lead to the top of the village where the church sits proudly overlooking the typical Andalucian, whitewashed homes.

The village has very little in the way of tourist attractions. There are few shops and just one hostal. There is a post office and one real estate agent.

The village is however, famous for its festival in September when the streets are lined with candles.

Other places worthy of a mention within the same Guadalhorce Valley are:

Alhaurin de la Torre. Located at the entrance of the valley, 17km from Malaga and 8km from Torremolinos. The village is easily accessed by means of the N340 highway. This is a village in which the modern features live quite happily alongside the old. White bleached houses in narrow streets are surrounded by modern urbanizations. The area has a good agricultural industry with fruit high on the production list, as is flower production.

Alora. Further into the valley towards Antequera is this sleepy village with narrow streets and quaint parks. The centre of the village is Plaza Fuente Arriba, close to the City Hall. In this village you will find the third largest church in the province of Malaga, the Church of the Encarnation. The village has been inhabited since pre-historic times.

Cartama. One of the most important historic centres within the area. Many excavations in the area have revealed evidence of the Roman Empire. Witness to the many civilisations has been the castle, located on the hill-top and much expanded by the Romans.
