Ferry Holidays in Spain

Why take the ferry to northern Spain?

So many people don’t realise that there is another way to Spain beyond a plane trip, or that travelling to Spain can be so much more comfortable than a seat on a crowded aeroplane! Here are just a few great reasons why you should consider taking the ferry with Brittany Ferries to northern Spain.

Your holiday starts on board

Forget busy check-in lounges and cramped aeroplane seating. Travelling by ferry means quicker check-in times, loads to do on board and lots of space to move about. You can even sit down to a delicious freshly-cooked meal or enjoy a breath of bracing sea air out on deck.

Start your holiday in the relaxed way that you want to continue the rest of your holiday. On Brittany Ferries’ Spanish crossings, you’ll have a day and night on board so there’s plenty of time to explore the brilliant facilities – boutique shops, à la carte and self-service restaurants, kids’ play areas… there’s even swimming pools and spa rooms on some ships and a wealth of entertainment in the summer months.

Enjoy a cosy en suite cabin to ensure you get a good night’s sleep and arrive refreshed in Spain and ready for your onward adventure.

Take your own car and everything you need

Drive on, drive off. In your own car that you’ve packed up with everything you need to make your holiday special. It’s that simple.

All the family’s mountain bikes, surfboards, golf clubs – all these things can come with you so you don’t have to hire when you get there.

Get closer to your destination – and what a destination northern Spain is!

Sail from two ports on England’s south coast – Plymouth and Portsmouth – to two destinations in northern Spain – Santander and Bilbao. Destinations in the Basque Country, Cantabria, Galicia, Asturias and Castilla y Leon are all just a drive away in beautiful surroundings.

Northern Spain has a reputation as the place the Spanish themselves go on holiday and it’s easy to see why. There’s stunning greenery with the lush forests of Galicia and the incredible Picos de Europa mountains, amazing peace and quiet away from the crowds that flock to the costas, and gorgeous wines from La Rioja and fabulous food from the mountains and the coasts – what’s not to love? Choice of sailings including cheaper économie crossings Choose from a standard cruise ferry sailing or save money on économie sailings if you’re on more of a budget. The économie ships may have less to do on board but you’ll still find great food and service.

Take your pet on holiday – in a pet-friendly cabin

All Brittany Ferries ships to Spain will take your pet on board and most have pet-friendly cabins so that your pet can stay with you all through the journey.  Just make sure you’ve got everything sorted for travel under the PETS travel scheme regulations including a valid pet passport.

See the marine wildlife in the Bay of Biscay

You definitely don’t get this in an aeroplane. The Bay of Biscay is renowned for the breadth and diversity of its marine wildlife and a wander out on deck can lead to some memories of whales and dolphins in their element that you’ll never forget.

Brittany Ferries even have specific whale and dolphin watching cruises in the summer. There’s also a group of ORCA officers on board Pont-Aven and Cap Finistère from March to September (from the wildlife charity) who give presentations and carry out deck watches where you can join in spotting the whales and dolphins and learn about the marine animals that you see.

Book your ferry and accommodation together

And with a ferry-inclusive holiday you get a free cabin too.
