Malaga airport museum is located in the old passenger terminal (behind the San Miguel factory). The terminal dates from 1938 and was designed by Luis Gutierrez Soto as the gateway to the Costa del Sol.

The museum is open Tuesday - Sunday 10 - 2 and 5 - 8 on Tuesdays. Entry is free and there is ample car parking outside the museum.

The museum has several planes that you can walk through and three halls of displays. Enter the cockpit of a DC9.

You can go up the old control tower and see how things were done in the 1950's. You also get a great view of runway 32 of the new airport.

The museum is very much hands on and children are encouraged to touch the displays. There's an educational room designed just for that purpose.

Idealspain visited the museum in October 2010.

It's a lovely little museum that can be seen in an hour or so. There are some very interesting old items and they are well displayed. The use of dummies illustrates how the staff would have looked in the 50's.

The receptionist speaks a little English and you get a printed guide on arrival to point out where to go.

There's currently a display of the layout for the new airport, alongside a model of the 1950's airport.

Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Oh and when you go up the control tower, look out for Simon Cowell's plane on the apron of the private airport, (among other celeb planes).
