Places in Spain - Muxia in Galicia

Muxia is a wonderful fishing port and beach resort on the western coast of Galicia. It forms part of the 'Costa da Morte' or 'Costa de la Muerte' which translates as the Coast of Death. It was given this name due to the number of shipwrecks along the coast through the centuries. The whole coastline has a unique beauty and consists of steep rock faces, tiny hidden coves, fishing ports and long, sandy beaches.

Muxia itself is still a very important fishing port and the fleet is still active. Muxia was once victim to a huge oil spill but thankfully, due to the hard work of thousands of people, the town has been returned to its former beauty.

As well as an active port, Muxia has a superb, sandy beach that rarely gets very busy. The water is shallow, clear and safe.

The town has a good infrastructure and offers a wide variety of bars and restaurants. The frontline restaurants offer great seafood.

At the far end of Muxia, the coastline changes and offers a dramatic seascape.

The famous church in Muxia is worthy of a visit. In the same area you will also find a Castro (pre-historic settlement) where you can clearly see the circular foundations.

The port offers a splash of colour in the old fishing boats. Fresh fish is sold at the town market and eaten in the sea front restaurants.
