Places in Spain - Places to visit - Barcelona Zoo

The zoo in Barcelona is located within the city park and admission is reasonably priced. Barcelona zoo ranks among the top zoos in the world as the conditions are among the best possible. The enclosures are of open construction, allowing you to almost touch the animals and get as close as possible. In the infant zoo, children are encouraged to touch some of the animals. A small train runs around the zoo and you can hire electric buggies.

Barcelona zoo used to house Snowflake, the only albino gorilla in captivity. He sadly died of skin cancer a few years ago. Snowflake was just one of a wide selection of animals at the zoo including birds, African and European animals and a wonderful selection of reptiles. The iguanas and chameleons are particularly impressive.

The zoo in Barcelona was founded in 1982, making it one of the oldest and most modern zoos in the world. The zoo prides itself on the humane and comfortable conditions in which the animals are kept.
