Guide to Torremolinos

Only 50 years ago Torremolinos had just one street and a score of houses and now we see the tiny fishing village become a massive resort area with rows of high-rise apartments and hotels. It is a household name all over the world. It is without a doubt, a family resort aimed at the package holiday business. More than 70% of its visitors are British and English is the accepted language. The local drink is lager. Due to the immense competition prices are kept low; among the lowest in Europe.

Torremolinos is located just 8km from Malaga airport and 13km from the port of Malaga. There are two principal beaches, both long and sandy. Shopping is vast with a wide selection of shops all at very reasonable prices. Very little of the old town of Torremolinos still remains although a fine 14th century Arab watchtower can be found.

Torremolinos offers just about everything you could possibly want in the way of beaches, nightclubs, restaurants and bars, not to mention the human contact with every language and description. Central is Plaza Costa del Sol. From here, head off in any direction to find the fun. The number one street for shopping is Calle San Miguel where you can find any manner of goods. To hit the beaches, go to the end of this street and descend the steps. Here you find 6 miles of sand where summertime temperatures can be in the high 80's and the humidity is low. You will also find all the beach facilities you would expect, such as brollies, sun beds, water sports and beach bars.

This resort was first established in the 1960's and Torremolinos will continue to draw huge crowds, well into the next century and will always be a favourite with the English holiday maker.

Right next to Torremolinos is the coastal resort of Benalmadena Costa.
