Located close to Fuengirola and Mijas, just off the N340 highway, you will find one of the most popular attractions on the Costa del Sol. The Hipodromo (racecourse) makes an entertaining day out for the whole family. Entrance and ample car parking is free. Most of the racecourse is new, well planned and well organised. Make sure you obtain a brochure at the entrance gate when you arrive. If you arrive late, you may not be able to get a brochure.

Betting at the course is easy, with several options to choose from:

You can of course simply bet on the winner of the race or you may pick a horse that finishes 1st or 2nd. Try a dual forecast by picking two horses that cross the finishing line or a triple forecast, paying the highest dividends if you predict the 1st,2nd and 3rd placings.

We visited the racecourse in February when the races are only held on occasional Sundays. We were informed however that in the summer the events are more regular and they are often held floodlit at 11pm.

Although you will find many people who dedicate their lives to the sport, we found that the atmosphere was relaxed and had a definite family feel to it. You do not have to bet if you don't want to and you will not feel out of place. It makes an excellent day out for the whole family. Feel free to take your own cool box with drinks and lunch if you wish. You will save money as the food was quite expensive.

Programmes and brochures are in English and Spanish so you will soon grasp the betting method. Staff at the information desks spoke English and were more than happy to answer any questions.

The course is so important that all the races are televised live on the local television.
