The range of sports available on the island is wide and the facilities are excellent. The main attraction for visitors are watersports, sailing and golf.

Mallorca has for years been a proven favourite with the Mediterranean yachting fraternity because of its beautiful and varied coastline. A yacht also gives access to many tiny, hidden coves. There are specialist companies offering nautical holidays and boat charters. The premier sailing event is held in August. The Copa del Rey (Kings Cup) is attended by King Juan Carlos. On most beaches you will find various small craft for hire by the hour. These can be great fun. Lessons can also be found in sailing, windsurfing and waterskiing. There are also several scuba diving centres on the island.

On dryland you will find tennis courts on most urbanisations and at many hotels. Many resorts also have horse riding and cycle hire. This can be a great way to explore Mallorca. Cycling is fast becoming one of the most popular sports on the island, although July and August are usually too hot to enjoy the sport and you are best near the water. Every Spring there is a 13 hour, 320km cycle race around the island.

The varied terrain of the island also makes for hiking, walking and climbing. You are best to join one of the many organised climbs. Mallorcas highest peak, Puig Major has a military radar station at the top and can only be scaled with special permission.

Recently, Mallorca has become a popular golf destination and now has some of the best courses in Europe. The best courses are located near Palma.
